What is PlannerScore?
Planner Score is a points-based reflection of how complete and active your Boldin plan is. It lives as a bar at the top of your planner: collapsed, it shows your score and a progress bar; expanded, it shows the legs that make up your score and a row of next actions you can take, each worth points. The more of your plan you complete, the more your score grows.
Planner Score is currently in beta. Right now it’s built from two legs—Build (the core information that forms your plan) and Explore (the planning tools and strategies you’ve engaged with)—with 290 points to earn. A third leg, Refresh, is on the way.

Planner Score vs. Chance of Success
You'll see two prominent numbers in your planner, and they measure different things.
Chance of Success tells you whether your money is projected to last. It's the outcome of your plan.
Planner Score tells you how fully you've built and explored your plan in Boldin. It's the completeness behind that outcome.
A high Planner Score doesn't mean your plan is "good," and a low one doesn't mean it's "bad." It means there's more of your picture to capture, or more tools to try — which in turn makes your Chance of Success and every other projection more accurate. Planner Score is most useful while you're building and exploring. Once your plan is fully entered, a high score simply confirms you've covered the essentials.
How it works
Find your score. Planner Score sits at the top of your planner. Open it to see your legs and the actions you can take next.
Build your plan. Enter the core information that makes up your plan — your goals, savings, income, expenses, and more. Each one earns 10 points the first time you complete it.
Explore your options. Use Boldin's planning tools and try out different strategies, like the Social Security Explorer, Roth Conversion Explorer, or Market Risk Explorer. Each one earns 10 points.
Follow up next. Expand the bar to see your next actions. Each is worth 10 points and takes you straight to the right place in your planner — complete one and watch your score climb.
Watch your score grow. There are 290 points to earn right now across Build and Explore, with more on the way as Boldin adds new elements — including the Refresh leg.
If you prefer more screen space or find specific suggestions—like linking accounts or contribution advice—irrelevant to your current needs, the Planner Score bar can be easily collapsed to stay out of your way.
What earns you points
Every element is worth 10 points, and your score is additive — the points you earn stay with you.
Build
The core information that forms your plan: onboarding basics (your name, date of birth, marital status, retirement goal, and target retirement age) plus your plan inputs (savings, income, expenses, housing, debt, Social Security, medical costs, long-term care, and estate goals and documents).
Explore
The planning tools and strategies you engage with: setting your contributions, excess income, withdrawal strategy, and transfers; building a scenario; running the Market Risk Explorer, Social Security Explorer, or Roth Conversion Explorer; and chatting with Boldin AI.
Refresh (coming soon)
A third leg that will reward keeping your plan current over time. It isn't part of Planner Score during beta.
A couple of things to know
Some elements won't apply to you — and that's fine. For items like non-mortgage debt or one-time expenses, you don't have to invent one to earn the points. Choose "I don't have any," and the element counts as complete. Confirming "none" is a real answer: it tells your plan there's nothing to model there.
Planner Score is specific to the scenario you're viewing. Each scenario has its own score, so your number can differ from one scenario to the next depending on what you've completed in each.
Common ways you can use it:
Starting Your Plan ("Build"): When you’re just getting started, Planner Score highlights your first few wins. By adding the basics—like your goals, savings, and income—you see your score jump, which gives you clear momentum right from the start.
Testing "What-If" Scenarios ("Explore"): If you’re curious about different strategies, you can use built-in tools like the "Market Risk Explorer" or the "Social Security Explorer." Trying these out isn't just helpful for your plan; it’s an easy way to boost your score while learning more about your options.
Keeping Things Accurate ("Refresh" Coming soon): Your life changes over time, and your plan should too. Planner Score gives you a friendly nudge to review information that may have "decayed"—like account balances that need updating. It’s a great way to ensure your plan remains a reliable tool for your big decisions.
Focusing on What Matters Now: If you’re ever unsure about your next move, you can look for the suggested action items. These act as a simple roadmap, taking you directly to the exact spot in your plan that needs your attention.
Think of Planner Score as a way to see the impact of your efforts in real-time, helping you stay motivated as you build toward the future you want.
FAQs
Where do I find my Planner Score? It's a bar pinned to the top of your planner. Collapsed, it shows your score and progress; expand it to see each leg and the next actions you can take.
How is Planner Score different from Chance of Success? They measure different things. Chance of Success tells you whether your money is projected to last — the outcome of your plan. Planner Score tells you how completely you've built and explored your plan in Boldin. A fuller plan makes your Chance of Success more accurate, but the two numbers aren't the same thing.
Is a higher score better? Not in the way Chance of Success is. A higher Planner Score means you've captured more of your plan and tried more tools — which makes every projection more accurate — but it isn't a judgment of whether your plan is on track. For that, look at Chance of Success.
Why does an item show as incomplete when it doesn't apply to me? Planner Score asks you to confirm each element, even when the answer is "none." For items like non-mortgage debt or one-time expenses, select "I don't have any" and it'll count as complete.
Can I collapse or hide the Planner Score bar? You can collapse the bar to a slim summary at any time, and Boldin remembers whether you left it collapsed or expanded, so it opens the way you prefer. A full hide option isn't available during beta.
Why did my Planner Score change when I switched scenarios? Planner Score is calculated for the scenario you're currently viewing. When you switch scenarios, you'll see that scenario's score, which reflects the inputs and tools you've completed there.
How high can my score go right now? During beta, there are 290 points to earn across Build and Explore. That total will grow as Boldin adds new elements — and when the Refresh leg launches.
Does my score ever go down? Not during beta. Within a scenario, the points you earn stay earned. (When Refresh launches, some elements will need a periodic check-in to stay counted — we'll explain more when it's available.)
What is Refresh, and where is it? Refresh is a third leg that rewards keeping your plan current over time. It's coming in a future release. For now, your Planner Score is made up of Build and Explore.
Do I need a paid plan to have a Planner Score? No. Planner Score is available to all Boldin members, on any plan tier, who have opted into our beta program.
