How to enter annual amounts in Boldin

The key: one entry per payment, same start and stop month

To enter a once-a-year amount, set the start and stop to the same month and year, which is the month you expect to be paid. Enter the full amount you expect to receive.

If the amount repeats every year, add a separate entry for each year. A single entry that runs from January 2027 to January 2037 won't pay once a year. Instead, it spreads the amount into monthly deposits across those 10 years.

GOOD TO KNOW
Use the year the money is paid, not the year you earned it. If you earn a 2026 bonus but it's paid in February 2027, enter it in 2027. That's the year it will count as taxable income.

SHORTCUT: WHEN TIMING DOESN'T MATTER
If you only care about yearly totals, you can use one entry that starts in January of the first year and stops in December of the last year. Boldin spreads the amount monthly, but each full year still shows the full amount. Use separate entries when timing matters, for example a lump sum that lands right before retirement or a payout that affects ACA or IRMAA thresholds in a specific year.

Entering a work bonus

Enter it with Boldin AI

COPY THIS PROMPT INTO BOLDIN AI
Please add my annual bonus to my plan. In Income > Work, add a separate job entry for each year below for [me / my partner]. Name each one "[Company] Bonus [year]," enter the pre-tax income amount, set the start and stop to the same month and year, and set the growth rate to 0%:
[Month year] – $[amount]
[Month year] – $[amount]
[Month year] – $[amount]
Before saving, show me all the entries.

Enter it yourself

 1. Go to My Plan > Income and open the Work section.

 2. Press Add Job + and select who receives the bonus.

 3. Give it a name that includes the year, for example "ACE Bonus 2027."

 4. Enter the full bonus amount in the Pre-Tax Income field.

 5. Set the Start and Stop to the same month and year you expect to be paid.

 6. Set the growth rate to 0.00%.

 7. Press Save. Repeat for each year you expect a bonus.

TIP
Boldin AI saves the most time here. It can create all your yearly entries at once from a single list.

Entering a deferred compensation payout schedule

Add a separate Lump Sum pension for each installment, using the amounts and dates from your plan statement. This works whether your installments are the same each year or change from year to year.

COPY THIS PROMPT INTO BOLDIN AI
In Income > Pensions, add a separate Lump Sum pension for each of my deferred comp payouts. Name each one "[Company] Deferred Comp [year]," set the tax treatment to Yes, and don't add an annual increase:
[Month year] – $[amount]
[Month year] – $[amount]
[Month year] – $[amount]
Show me all the entries before saving.

Enter it yourself:

 1. Go to My Plan > Income > Pensions and press Add a pension.

 2. Choose Lump Sum and name it with the year, for example "ACE Deferred Comp 2030."

 3. Enter the installment amount and the date it's paid.

 4. Select Yes for the tax treatment.

 5. Press Save. Repeat for each installment.

Check your work

After you save, open Insights and look at your income in the years you entered. Each payment should appear in full in the year it's paid. If an amount is spread thin across many years, you probably have a single entry with a date range. Replace it with one entry per year.
