Important dates you'll want to be aware of when creating your plan.

  • 26 Adult children may lose parents’ health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act

  • 50 Eligibility for Catch Up Contributions begins

  • 55 Eligibility for Distribution of 457 plans and SEPP begins

  • 59.5 Eligibility for Distribution of Qualified Plans (IRAs, 401Ks and 403b plans) begins on your 59.5th birthday

  • 60 Surviving Spouse eligibility begins for reduced Social Security benefit

  • 62 Eligibility for reduced Social Security benefit begins

  • 64 and 9 months Eligibility for coverage under Medicare. Medicare Enrollment begins 3 months before your 65th birthday and ends 3 months after your 65th birthday.

  • 65 Eligibility for non-medical withdrawals from HSA without penalty begins on your 65th birthday

  • 67 Eligibility for Full Social Security benefit

  • 70 Eligibility for Maximum Social Security benefit. Eligibility begins your birth month, your benefit starts the next month, and benefits are paid the month after they are due.

  • 70.5 QCDs may be taken after your 70.5th birthday

  • RMD age

    • You are required to take RMDs from pre taxIRAs and employer-sponsored retirement plans from your Required Beginning Date (RBD) until your longevity age. Depending on your birth date, the Required Beginning Date (RBD) for pre-tax IRAs and employer-sponsored retirement plans is as follows:

      If you are born:

      Before 1/1/1951, your RMDs have already begun

      Between 1/1/1951 and 12/31/1959 your RMDs must start at age 73

      After 1/1/1960 your RMDs will begin at age 75
